Hello World, Welcome to Mostly Odd
This is my personal site about oddities of all shapes and sizes. From historical events up to peculiar ideas. The aim is to interest and inform.
Sites and books filled with single-sentence facts are not enough to satisfy many, so this site is their antithesis. A place with a bit more detail and a lot more words if necessary. The greater length comes with greater time constraints. The articles are provided as and when they are finished. There is no schedule and no prearranged plan. Each article will hopefully be finished in its entirety, if you spot an error or want to ask a question feel free to leave a comment.
Why The Changing Article Length?
I do articles here, but they are far from all the same. The two types are called Micro Oddities and Macro Oddities.
Micro Oddities are shorter ‘factoids’ which don’t have, or I feel do not need, the extra length and detail to say all that needs to be said. Think of them as intellectual mints to improve your knowledge (and breath) quickly. Macro Oddities are larger chunks of (mostly odd) information. Long-form pieces which aim to cover topics in their entirety. Hopefully both types shall temporarily quench your thirst for knowledge.
The answer would be me. Now I understand this is not specific, so I shall elaborate. My name is Alexandre R.D.M. Coates, nice to meet you. I am the head and founder of this pithy site. If you want any more information then head to the About page where you can find out all… about me.
I Have Thoughts And Ideas!
If you have any ideas or facts that you think I should mention, then please do let me know! Finding facts on my own does sometimes get rather difficult. Head over to the Contact page and send an email, or drop a comment mentioning your fact and I will see if I can pursue it.
What Do I Do Now?
If you don’t want to be checking this website for articles in your precious time, consider subscribing to the email list in the right sidebar. Otherwise I can only say that you should enjoy life, remain curious, and if you enjoy the site, then please do share any posts, comment or donate.
Right, this page is practically finished. Now go! Learn, live long, and prosper. If you are uncertain about what to start with, may I recommend you start with a deadly mice utopia or a large forest made up of a single tree? If that isn’t to taste how about when the Niagara falls went dry, or even the world’s most kissed face? It’s your choice, I hope you find something you like.
